Using a document camera during instruction
In my room I have a document camera that projects on to a screen. We use it all the time. Most of the time I use it for modeling activities, showing video clips, using the internet, and during instruction. Sometimes I use it to go over morning work, to practice together a couple math problems in the workbook, etc.
Last year it hung over the white board, so kids were at their seats when I used it. When the kids are supposed to be doing something, like repeating each step, or going over their work, I liked it. But when kids just were sitting at their tables they get sooo fidgety. It's also inconvienient because I start a lesson on the carpet, then need to use the screen, so they have to go to their seats, and then sometimes come back to the carpet. We are losing time with the transition.
It would be so nice if the screen was hung by our carpet, since most of my instruction is on the carpet. However, those times when we are doing science experiments, using math manipulatives, going over work, etc. at our tables, it's necessary having the doc camera there.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if there is a certain position you put your overhead/doc camera/whatever you may use.
I would love to see if the custodian could mount it in a spot where it is visable from the carpet and the tables. But I can't figure out where that would be with the arrangement of my room.
