My blow-dryer sparks. Is this normal?

I've been blow drying my hair differently and noticed that my blow-dryer sparks inside by the coils. Is this normal or is it time to get a new one?

My power screwdriver sparks too. My husband thinks it's funny.

Sparking appliances are NOT funny, they are very dangerous.

Either replace your hair dryer (and screwdriver!!) or have them repaired.

If the air intake is all clogged with dust, it will run hotter and perhaps spark a little.

I had one actually detonate on me.

EEEK! That is not cool... definitely fix or replace. Imagine if one of the sparks landed in your hair!

Make sure the intake is free from dust. Mine will start to smell when it gets too dusty. Once it sparks it's done.

Me too! Mine didn't so much explode as catch on fire. Luckily I was holding it well away from my hair.

Please, go to Target or wherever and get a new hairdryer! Sparks are dangerous!
