Space Camp

Several of us on this site was lucky enough to get scholarships to Honeywell's Educators at Space Academy at Huntsville, AL. I have attended a lot of professional development, but this one is one of the best ever. The scholarship pays your air fare and tuition. If you want to check it out this is the site:

Applications available at www.honeywell.com/hhs

I know any of us who were lucky enough to go would be more than happy to help in any way we can. Check it out. It really is amazing!!

Wow! I just read the press release and this sounds like an exciting program. The company is right indicating that inspiration is what is needed to attract students into the field of aviation and astronautics. Oh, that I could have attended this program. A program like that would be the pinnacle of my career.

Hi, kcjo13. I just replied to your PM, but just in case anyone else is checking this out. Jem may have better suggestions, I wrote from my heart. I listed the major things I had done and was lucky enough to have a NASA program among them. I was very open with my enthusiasm, though. I tend to right exactly how I speak and sometimes that makes for interesting reading! I know any of us who have been would be more than happy to help you out. Good luck!

Way down south in Dixie!
Was PreK SPE, now HS SPE.
That's just an hour north of me! I've heard it is a great program. I've done the basic tour there.

I whipped my essay off in about 10 minutes, because I honestly didn't think I would get in. I was SHOCKED when I got it. I would highlight any students of need that you teach, and talk about how putting more enthusiasm for science into your school/district will help. They really want teachers to take the information, go back to their schools, and spread the word. So maybe talk about how you would do presentations, or how you would meet with other science teachers and show them your cool ideas. Talk about how the kids might not be getting enough science, or how your current plans are boring and you need to spice things up.

I think I highlighted how I was the only middle school science teacher, so it would help a lot of kids, and my kids were mostly immigrant/low socio-econ kids, so it would be a huge gift for them.

It is a fantastic program! My enthusiasm has increased by leaps and bounds. I also applied quickly and got in anyway. I talked about having a Space Week at my school and I think that helped me.

If anyone was accepted into the program but can't attend, let me know!

I can provide my own transportation and can be there on short notice. I'll be standing by!!!

Applications will probably be accepted through the end of the year. Christy, Jem and I went last summer so we're talking about this past summer. Please apply if you have any interest. They said there were 1500 applicants and they accepted 300. good luck!
