1st grade teachers

I decided to take the private school position for first grade.
I am a new teacher and the only 1st grade teacher.

I need to find 1st grade websites with creative lesson plans.

What do first grade teachers do the first day. I need help!

Please offer your suggestions. I need grade specific ones.

Thanks

You will want to have them write their names, letters, and numbers (maybe for AM work) so that you will know how many of them are able to do this.

I will look through my bookmarked websites and post back with some good first grade links. As always, AtoZ is a great place to find lessons!

I always take a tour of the school -- as a reminder for the kids who were around for a kindergarten and an intro for the new folks. We also do a word search with the names of the students in the class. Of course, we always review rules and procedures --my students are very excited to get their books and love to spend time looking through them. Best wishes!

I had another thought -- I don't know when you start school, but the Olympics would be a great way to kickoff the school year (My kids come back on Aug 23rd)! Lots of links on this site for lesson plan ideas!

I suggest reading The First Days of School by Wong. It is wonderful for any new teacher. I got many good ideas for the first days and weeks of school.

Talk to the kinder teacher & find out what she covered. Does your school have a curriculum or scope & sequence for you to start with? Talk to the 2nd grade teacher, what does she expect them to know?

1st day of 1st grade!!!! 1st we introduced ourselves...who they had last year and if they went to our school or not. We talked about our summer. Took a tour of the school and bathroom break. I brought in a snack and read books. I had a bulletin board that said Our Summer was T-errific, so they had to draw and color some of their favorite things they did over the summer. We talked about rules they thought we should have in class. We talked about me being a 1st year teacher. Some of the things they thought we might learn about. We did do calendar. Had a couple of recess and let them color some other pictures!!!! Mostly, let them get use to one another!!!!
