Pre-assessment for Poetry?

I am thinking about doing my next work sample on poetry. I will need to have at least 10 lessons for that one. I'm just curious about what kind of pre-assessment I could do for poetry in the first grade. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Stephanie Fjeld

How about something that looks at rhyming (not that all poetry rhymes) but I know that kids sometimes think words rhyme based on beginning sound versus end sound.
