Library Center Activities

I'm trying to revamp my centers. I've already differentiated the listening center and the computers. Now I am focusing on the library center.

Currently, students simply read books in those centers. I would like for them to create some type of a product. I already have an independent reading center where they have to do a response to literature, so I wanted to do something different from this center.

What do you have your students do in the library center?

Just some ideas:
1. make a poster
2. make a book jacket
3. tape record them reading a book
4. create a diary or journal, pretending to be one of the characters
5. make a comic stip about the book
6. change the ending of the story

Make a paper with three sections on it. In each section make a place to draw a picture and to write a few lines, label it beginning, middle, end. I find that a lot of students struggle with the idea of beginning middle and end in stories. They also get some hands on practice summarizing. You could also demonstrate the difference between plagiarizing and summarizing with this center!
Have students rate books, Make a form where they write the title & author, draw a picture, short summary and tell why they did or did not like it. Teach them how to use the data to pick better books (same author, look at the back for descriptions)

Oooo I like those ideas. They are simple and easy to implement. I do have students that struggle with beginning, middle, and end too. Some extra practice will be good for them. I also like the idea of creating a diary too. Thank you so much!
