Okay, this answers one of the questions I asked you on a different thread: you have taken CBEST before.

From your post I infer that your first language might not be English. Is that correct?

I have taken CBEST multiple times. English is not my first language.

I don't know how I managed to miss your response, Alyson: sorry.

A good choice to bring up Reading Comprehension scores is Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day from LearningExpress, ISBN ISBN 1-57685-494-9 - most bookstores carry it among the test prep books or can order it for you. There's a version in which the questions are still in English but the explanations are in Spanish: that would be Reading Comprehension Success con instrucciones en español.

Where in California are you located?

Does cbest cliff test prep should help me? I'll look into that book. Thanks! I'm from east bay of California. I'm taking the next test on August 12 in Concord. I can't read in Spanish, but is that English explanation? I only have more than a week left and I'm nervous. I just need 46points on the reading to pass? Should I just take the reading only and take my time in it?

You need 46 points to pass reading? Did you get a minimal pass on the essay, then?

This time around, it might make sense to take just the reading section, yes... but I'm also getting the impression that your English needs work. You might consider a course in grammar, reading, or composition at your local community college or adult school (most public unified or high school districts in California run adult schools).

Hi everyone, I need some help on taking the cbest reading section. I have taking it many times and I wonder if I should keep trying. When is enough? Taking this test 7 times seems like too much. What do you think? Friends tell me I should go into something else, not teaching.
Frustrated.

How close are you coming? Do you generally have difficulty with tests of reading comprehension?

yes, I get scores of 28 and 30. Sometimes I think I am over confident. I just don't know what to do. I have studied so many books. I have passed the writing with a 47 and the math with a 37, which leaves me with a need of 39 on reading. Do you have any ideas for me?
