Thanks! Can you remember anymore questions? I appreciate all the help I can receive. Also, do you have any study material?
Thanks, Kathy

What is the best application to use? a. spreadsheet b. database c. word processor d. presentation").

I agree with teachergroupie, take whatever tests you feel you have a chance to pass. My primary cert is in English (BA in English, minor in History, followed by an M.Ed.) but I also took the Social Studies PRAXIS and did well, and because of my tech backgtround, I took the Business & Comp Tech PRAXIS and passed that as well. There is also quite a bit of technology crossover in the Tech Ed PRAXIS, so I took that last month and am currently awaiting the results. Next I will probably take the Communications PRAXIS, and sometime after that, I'll start the coursework for a Reading Specialist certification. The only bummer is the expense of taking ETS exams, it really angers me to have to pay a "registration fee" for every test that I take since I'm already in their system.

Multiple certs will definitely get you noticed, principals and administrators really appreciate the extra flexibility that you bring to their school.

Flash Cards?

Hi all,

I am also attempting to prepare for the Business Education exam in order to teach secondary school Computer Applications. However, although I have been teaching computer classes for nearly 20 years, it has also been 20+ years since I graduated from college. Not only do I not remember most of the material that will be tested, there is quite a bit that I never even learned in school, so here's my question.....I am considering ordering some flash cards that I found on the web. Am I allowed to name the company?....because I'd
like to know if anyone else has used these same flash cards and whether or not they helped. This particular company also sells a study guide, but I don't want to spend the money for both and think the flash cards might be more useful.

If any of you has purchased/used these items, you may have an idea as to the company to which I am referring. Thanks for any insight!

There's no such thing as the one resource that works well for everyone, so in the ordinary course of things one expects someone somewhere to have panned a particular resource. If a Web search reveals no such feedback, either the resource is a very new thing, or perhaps the negative feedback is getting squelched.

True.....I just need somewhere to begin as I have no textbooks from which to study. Are these SparkCards a good representation of what's on the test, i.e., what we need to know in order to pass?

Are SparkCharts a good representation of what is on a specific Praxis exam? No, of course they're not. That's not what they're designed for - it would be way too small a niche.

What you can and should do is use the Tests at a Glance document for 0100 to identify the range of things you need to know for 0100; supplement that with your state's content standards for business education, which (if they exist yet) should be on the state department of education Web site. Then go to resources such as SparkCharts, the For Dummies series and others like it, and the Internet for the details.

Yes, it's more work than using a specialized test prep resource. But the payoff is that you'll sharpen your knowledge of the concepts more effectively this way, which will better equip you to impart those concepts - and those research skills - to your future students.

I'm scheduled for the August 4th, 2007 exam...

Hi All,

I am scheduled for the August 4th, 2007 exam -- just a few weeks away. I have downloaded the "Test at a Glance", but I was wondering if anybody had any luck finding "sample tests" or helpful web sites that I could use.

I have some "test anxiety" issues and, although I have been teaching for several years, if I have not practiced these subjects since college.

I'm pretty sure that I will be okay, but I am supporting a wife and 4 children on a teachers salary in Tennessee, so taking the test multiple times is not my first choice.

Thanks for any help!

Robert

Try using your favorite search engine (mine is now http://us.ixquick.com) to look for help with the concepts. There's probably at least one professional association for teachers of business that will have some help. The SparkCharts mentioned above can be very useful, if you see that they correlate with what the exam requires; SparkCharts and SparkNotes are both Barnes & Noble products, and B&N stores as a class are pretty forgiving when it comes to browsing. Answers.com is a wonderful tool for quickly looking up a concept.

As for the test anxiety, if yours is severe, it might make sense to see a psychologist - there are some relatively quick therapies, including but by no means limited to self-hypnosis, that can help. You may also find that a workout with LearningExpress's nifty Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day will help.

I am just beginning the process of putting together materials for my TWO Praxis II exams on August 4th (Geography 0920 and Business 0100). I would love to exchange resources if others are working on the same kinds of things.

My address is www itouchthefuture com. (I removed the dots in case it causes a link problem)

Thanks!
