Thank You for the many wonderful ideas. I have been teaching second grade for 5 years, and I will be teaching 1st grade at a new school soon. I am excited, and I am looking for as amany ideas as possible. Do you know where I can find songs to teach reading/phonics skills? Any advice is welcome!!

I just got a CD called "Hip Hop Alphabop", not quite sure by who (maybe greg and steve or jack hartman???) Anyway, it teaches Alphabet and phonics skills.
mrsnoble: How do you plan on doing your Homeworkopoly board? Will the kids get to play the game every day?
we are semi-departmentalized so I planned on using it when every kid had homework in that class. They would all get the reward. I had a hard time coming up with rewards suitable for a whole class, but I think it'll be fun.
Workshop Way is something I learned from a friend of mine who teaches at my school. When a student finishes an assignment, they will go to the board and complete task one and then work there way through the list of activities. There are twenty of them all together. This will keep students from saying they have no thing to do or them trying to sit and do nothing. The crates on the table hold all the stuff they need to complete the tasks on the board.[/QUOTE]

I saw so many great pictures on here I have a few to share myself. Unfortunately, I can't share but a few because I have a terrible leak in room that has taken over a third of it and is now filled with grey trashcans and buckets. I'm sure it'll be fixed by Monday. I'll share some more pics later
