STAAR Writing

Any fourth grade STAAR writing teachers out there? How are you feeling? Are you ready?

Third Grade Teacher
I taught fourth grade writing last year.

When the test was a couple weeks away, I was ready for it to hurry up and be over! My grade level departmentalized and I was the only writing teacher so I had the joy of teaching everyone writing. Fifteen percent of the grade level could write one complete sentence and zero percent could write two complete sentences on one topic on the first day of school so the year was an uphill battle all the way. I loved teaching writing but I hated battling students to capitalize the word I!

My situation is very similar to what you described. I teach all of the fourth grade writing, and many of them were not able to write in complete sentences when they came to me.
I'm really worried...we just completed the released questions from the TEA website, and it is so much more difficult than other prep material I have used. So far, they have not done well on it.
