Language development, EFL, third graders and boys
I am teaching grade 3 students in China. I vehemently objective to teaching kids a foreign language in large groups until about the 5th grade, but that is another issue. My problem - boys are usually slower than girls at developing language skills....in China, boys are almost completely disinterested in studying a foreign language, where as girls seem to enjoy it...but besides the gender differences there are the typical differences among the student based on personalities and socio-economic factors.
My question: are there things i can do to get John, who is not only low level in his English class and scores but also low in his Chinese scores (mother tongue) to improve his English? The exam scores here are everything!!!
