Male/Female Ratio

My mom and I were having lunch the other day and she mentioned that her school hasn't had a male teacher in years.

My site has 24 teachers. Of the 24 teachers, I am the only male.

When I taught middle school, it was pretty even: probably 50/50 (male/female). Most the math/science teachers were men & the majority of the language arts/social studies teachers were women.

Personally, I only had one male elementary teacher (4th grade).

How are things where you teach?

I only had one male teacher in elementary (6th grade). All of my middle school teachers were women. The only male teachers I had in high school were for AP World, AP Calc, and AP Chem.

7th Grade Special Education
We have a K-2 male Art teacher, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and one in 6th Social Studies, 7th Writing, and 8th Social Studies, respectively. I LOOOOOVE our male primary teachers! They rock. We also have a male foreign language teacher and a bi-lingual intervention teacher. That only makes 10 though out of 60ish teachers. Still a better ratio than most schools I've seen.

4th Grade Teacher
We have a small K-5 school. Out of about 25 teachers (including specials, tech coach, aides, special ed, etc.) we have 4 males. A 4/5 split teacher, PE teacher, aide, and tech coach. I wish we had more guys in the building.

Out of 23 classroom teachers, 1 is male.

We have a male gym teacher, a male art teacher, and a male Title 1 teacher, as well.

I can only remember one male teacher when I was younger as well. In my school there are only two male teachers; one music and one in 5th grade. The 5th grade teacher is brand new this year.

4th Grade Teacher
At one school, I am one of three male teachers (I teach a smorgasbord of stuff, one does PE, the other teaches grade 5 French Immersion.) There is also a male EA in grade five.

At my other school, I am one of many more male teachers. Kindergarten teacher, Grade 4, Music, PE and the principal, as well as me (grade 3/4).

My first semi-LTS, I was the only male teacher there... It was a little odd, because there was a male staff bathroom, but the women were used to using it. I said, it didn't bother me, as long as they didn't expect me to put the seat down! (For the record, in the unisex bathrooms at my current schools, I ALWAYS put the seat down... I just didn't feel I should be bothered if it was a "male" bathroom!)

When I was a kid, I remember my sister had a male kindergarten teacher, but I only had a male teacher in grade five.
