LinkedIn?

(not sure where to post this thread)

Would it be benificial to create a LinkedIn profile for teaching? Or is this site more for business oriented proffessionals?

I've never bothered with LinkedIn. When I was still job hunting, I spent my energy filling out the forms for my state's Department of Education job bank. If your state / region works with REAP, work on that as well.

I know of no teachers who have used it, but other professional friends have. Not sure if was actually beneficial, though.

I have a LinkedIn account...I'm not looking for a job, though I do like to maintain 'professional contact' with others in a way that other networks such as FB don't fulfill.

Many teachers around me have accounts. Not sure that they are using it to job hunt, but I can't imagine this being harmful in the process.

Thank you everyone. I have my undergrad in general education and am a few months from getting my master's in Special Education. Some of the state uses REAP (not APS). I did get a few interviews using REAP. Rural schools and the idea of teaching outside the city does interest me.

What do you hope to accomplish with a LinkedIn account?

I don't have one and am not really interested in getting one. I don't really know much about it, except that it seems like the only people I know who have one are business professionals.

I only got one so I could contact a former teacher of mine who now works for The College Board. I couldn't find contact info for her on their website, so I joined so I could message her that way.
