Brainstorm for Bird Themed Classroom

I will be teaching my first year this year (yeah). I want to use a subtle theme of birds in my classroom.

So far I've come up with some basic board titles. I'd love your help to brain storm more.

So far:
Welcome to Our Nest
Something to Tweet/Crow About
Landing on a good book
Soaring success
Brainy Birds

Words associated with birds: landing, flap, roost

I'd like a saying for student of the week board and class jobs.

Any ideas?

I don't know what grade you teach but if you have a word wall you can make a "word bird" sign.

For student of the week, why not pick a type of bird and name it _______ of the week (ex: bluebird of the week).

For a job chart:

"Birds of a feather... WORK together."

Instead of a VIP (student of the week) you can have an "Eggs-pert Of the Week" where a student can shine in a hobby or talent with which he/she can share with the class.

"Our Eggs-citing Class!"

"We've Got Beak News!"

"Our Tern to Learn" (offers a moment for the kids to learn that a "tern" is a type of bird. )

The Student of the Week can be:

"Best of the Nest"

Hope these help springboard some ideas for you.

The things you've come up with so far are making me feel more confident about this theme.
(Second Grade, btw)
Many Many Thanks!

How about Leader of the Flock for the helper of the week?

Student work display: Soaring to New HeightsFor the door or roster: Birds of a Feather Flock Together

You probably can request free publications and materials from wildlife organizations. Look on the National Wildlife Federation website, too.

Make a tree trunk and branches at the edge of your BB out of butcher paper crumpled and/or detailed using a brown marker. Use moss from the crafts store to make a nest.

There are lots of adorable birdhouse themed cutouts and BB sets available everywhere.

Tremendous ideas. I your ideas about contacting national bird associations for materials.

I love my AtoZ Teacher Friends. You always come through for me!

OK, along these lines, I do a super cute bird craft-type project with my PreKers that I bet you could use as a springboard for your kids.

A paper lunch bag forms the nest- cut off about half of the top and roll it down. Stuff with Easter grass, shredded paper, whatever. The bird is made from a pinecone. Tear apart cotton balls and stuff in all the cracks around the pinecone. Add wiggle eyes and a beak. When you put the bird in the nest, it is adorable.
