Cute little student gift at Meet Teacher??

I usually have a little baggie with Lucky Charms with a poem about the charms to give my students when we first meet at meet the teacher night. But are there any other cute little gifts you know of to give your new students?

Give each child the following in a ziplock bag with the listed items:
Tissue -to remind you to dry someone's tears (or perhaps your own, so you can see the tears of others)

Toothpick - to remind you to "pick out" the good qualities of everyone including you
Band Aid -to remind you of healing hurt feelings, either yours or someone else's
Candy Kiss- to remind you that everyone needs a nice treat occasionally
Gold Thread- to remind you that friendship is the golden thread that ties together the hearts of everyone
Eraser- to remind you that everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and that's all right
Lifesaver Candy- to remind you to think of me as YOUR "lifesaver". Whenever you need to talk, feel free to come see me!
Mint- To remind you that you are worth a MINT to me!
Peanut - To remind you that sometimes it's ok to act like a "nut!"

Dear ________________,
You are a star in my class (starburst)
Everyone makes mistakes...that's how you learn (eraser)
I'm nuts about you (peanut in a shell)
You will learn a lot this year (smarties)
Everyone needs a hug...let me know if you need one (Hersheys hug)

I had never thought of that, but those are cute ideas. They seem inexpensive too. How do you do the lucky charms one? Now I'm craving cereal, LOL.

Kids and parents love it - plus the kids enjoy eating the cereal.

I have a copy of the poem on my yahoo groups - kinderfirst.

You can go there and click on files. It is listed "Lucky charm baggies" on there.

can I give a word of caution????

Be careful about giving students food. As a parent of a nut (peanut and tree nut) allergic child who is also a nut allergic parent. Some cereals now are made with various nut flours. I loved all these ideas but the nuts made me shudder.

I give the lucky charms out at Meet the Teacher which means mom and dad are there. I have had a few children with peanut allergies and never a problem.

If you intend to give them in class then yes I'd be more careful.

How do I find your yahoo group? I'd love to see the poem that you put with your lucky charms

Okay I found it but it won't open. It says to use Excel but Excel doesn't recognize the format. Help!

HAVE SOMEONE READ THIS LIST TO YOU AS YOU HUNT FOR THE SPECIAL MARSHMALLOWS INSIDE…. You should find:
A yellow star--to remind you to always shine
A pot of gold--to remind you that you're worth a million bucks
A blue moon--to remind you that once in awhile we all make
mistakes, and that's okay
A colorful rainbow--to remind you to promise to always do your best
A green clover--to give you good luck as you begin FIRST grade
A purple horseshoe--to remind you that U are Unique
An hourglass – to remind you of all the special times we will share this year
A red balloon--to remind you to soar above the clouds and try new things.
And most of all--a pink heart to remind you that as your teacher, I care about you!
