Is anyone earning health benefits?
I have been subbing for 12 years and enjoy it.
What I do not like ,however, is the inherent disrespect for our position as evidenced by the nearly complete absence of perks.
I am slowly accumulating some retirement, but there is no holiday, vacation, or sick pay, no unemployment benefits eligiblity, and no health benefits.
My job was cancelled this morning at 5:15, so I just sit home and lose $135 I will never get back.
I would like to know if anyone has a sub job where they actually get more perks.
I understand that Kelly Services offers higher pay for subs (18-22 dollars per hour plus health benefits).
Does anyone work for them? Is it true?
Who else can share their benefits information with us?
I am in Southern Cal.

Full benefits if you accumulate 600+ hours during the prior school year. You can keep them as long as you work during each pay period in the current year - but if you don't accumulate 600+ again, you will lose your during the next school year.

It's better than better than nothing - I'm thrilled!!!!! Actually "thrilled" is not a strong enough word. I'm so grateful for health benefits that I can't adequately express my feelings

I have health and dental insurance though not from subbing. The funny (and odd) thing about Kelly Subs is I NEVER received a response from them! Do they do a random drawing of who they reply back to? I do not understand why they chose not to respond to my inquiry about wanting to sub for them.

'Benefits', in my district, are negotiated and are hard-fought. Healthcare, prep time, work hours and days, duties are 'on the table' most negotiations. It's hard to preserve what we already have-negotiating for subs who are not part of our association are not a high priority. Are subs union members where you work, oldstudent? I know when my son (an accountant) worked as a 'temp' before he was hired full-time, he didn't have benefits either.

Perks?
*the sound of crickets*
Private insurance is costing me about $300 a month.
I was thinking about it today.... this month ALONE I am about $1,500 in the hole (comparing expenses to income). I don't know what will happen if this (LTS) foot in the door doesn't produce a full-time position next year.

I don't get benefits from subbing; I could pay for them through the district, but the district doesn't contribute anything. In February I should qualify for benefits through my part-time job, because I'll have been back for a year and work over 20 hours per week on average.

Once we accumulate a certain amount of hours, union dues are automatically deducted from our paycheck - whether we decide to join or not. This is because we greatly benefit from the union's negotiations. We have a very high pay rate compared to other districts and the opportunity to earn benefits. We are very lucky our union sees the benefit of including subs in its membership.
p.s. myownwoman,
I didn't get a response back from Kelly either!
