I can't really comment since I don't know what the question is, but are you sure it's their fault if a number of students all didn't show work on the same questions?
I also think bringing a kid from an A to a C because of not showing work is a bit harsh, but it's your classroom.
If a kid doesn't show the working how do you know thay didn't just copy the answer from another kid?
Again how many times do youfind the answer is wrong due to finger trouble with a calculator but the process was right and they get credit for that even f they don't get the full mark.
perhaps the OP should remind the kids of this that if they write down a wrong answer without showing working then the mark for that question would be zero!
