Middle School Teacher
Hi Everyone

Hi,

I have been a lurker here for a while, and just decided to join now that I have officially finished my Master of Arts in Education (Middle School Math). Now for the fun part.... getting a job!!!

I am located in Georgia and am considering adding Science and possibly Special Ed to my certificate. However, the GAPSC website must have been written by a team of Lawyers. It is so difficult to navigate and full of so much jargon I can't get a straight answer.

Does anyone know EXACTLY what is required to add SPEC and/or Science to your certificate in Georgia? I have heard, I just have to pass the GACE II in those areas but I'm not sure.

Anyway... back to the introduction. I am a mid-life career changer and worked as an Information Technology Manager for many years before going back to school to follow my childhood dream to become a teacher... Yay Me!

Welcome to A to Z, gaylestuff!

Good things (may) come to those who stop lurking: with some rummaging I found http://www.gapsc.com/Rules/Current/C...505-2-.025.pdf. If I read this correctly, and if I infer correctly that you're already teaching elementary, I THINK you'd come under Section 2, which looks like it specifies the exam plus possibly some other requirements. (I didn't click the link for the additional requirements.) Let me add that it's fairly common that states require an additional pedagogy course for teachers transitioning from elementary to secondary or vice versa and from general ed to special ed - and, frankly, it's probably appropriate, given the differences in pedagogy.

Hope this helps.
