I think maybe she means a secret you kept for certain length of time...like a suprise party or pregnancy. I couldn't think of any good secret like that I had to keep and could only think of the one big secret...which I certainly can't share here.

I'm sure I know what she means, but someone else's secret is not mine to share...regardless of the time passed or how open the secret now is.....that's how much my confidants can count on me.

I took it as meaning our own self-kept secret. Not someone else's secret. I don't think the majority of us would reveal loved one's secrets here or elsewhere. At least I would hope not! Of course, I have had people do the whole, "Okay, I'm not supposed to say anything, but I'll tell you." Perfect. Now I know to never to you anything!

I guess it's like a half secret.

Oh, yes. I can keep a secret. Very, very well.

The hardest one, however - which is no longer a secret - involved my brother and best friend, who used to date. They broke up. My brother started secretly dating his roommate. My best friend started secretly dating my brother's roommates ex-boyfriend. The my brother and best friend decided to get back together and broke up with the other two, who also got back together. And no one said anything to anyone else about all of this secret-dating-that-only-lasted-about-two-months for well over TWO YEARS.

It was kind of like Bill and Alice and Ted and Carol (or whatever that movie was)... but I was the only one who knew. And had to listen to EVERY SIDE OF THE STORY. Without mentioning to anyone else that everyone else was also unloading on me.

Man, that was a super happy day when everyone finally came clean. For me, anyway.

I know right! And so do all the people on two other forums I frequent.

The catch is, you don't know who I am

I'm keeping a secret from my dd now. She's missing her friends in Utah and I've made arrangements for her to visit and stay with her bf next summer for 2 weeks.

I will be giving her the travel arrangments and gift cards for Christmas.
