My daughter told me yesterday that there was a rumor going around in her high school that a freshman is going to take a gun to school and shoot some of the kids. she said they were talking about it, but haven't told any teachers.

I emailed her P and ccd the AP and let them know what is going on. Most likely it is just a stupid rumor or joke, and some kid is laughing because if the chaos he is going to cause, but this has to be taken seriously, because you never know.
I also let the P know that my daughter is staying home on Friday. It's a minimum day, and I know there won't be any instruction happening. I'm hoping this could be a excused absence, but I really don't care. Told her if she has questions, ask my daughter.

I guess alot of kids went home yesterday and told their parents and a lot of them reacted the same as me. Today a lot of teachers were talking about it, and a lot of students said they may not be going to school.

This is crazy. But i did all I could, and my daughter is staying home. I hope to God it is just a stupid joke and they catch the kid who made it up.

I heard a couple of news stories that some kids brought a gun to the school. Why? Why would they think that's ok, especially at this time?

A couple of middle school kids in a neighboring district wrote a bomb threat on one of the bathroom stalls this past week. They found out how serious it was to do that.

I can't tell you the number of schools around here that have been closed today because of threats....

We just observed our moment of silence and rang our own bell 26 times!!!

I saw where a 5th grader was caught with a gun and when questioned he told the authorities that his parents sent it to school with him so he could "protect" himself. He had taken it out of his backpack and held it up to a little boy's head and told him he was going to kill him...yep, sounds like he was "protecting" himself.

I saw that story as well. Happened in Utah, IIRC.

That is about as opposite of "responsible gun ownership" as you can get.
