Advice for new teachers

Hello all,
I am changing careers and I am back in school getting my Masters in education so that I can become an elementary school teacher. I was hoping that some of the seasoned teachers could offer me some tips or advice. I'll be starting in the class soon and I'm super nervous so any tips or the trade would be great! Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Welcome and CONGRATS for deciding on one of the most rewarding CAREERS; not just another job; on the face of the earth! You will make a BIG positive difference in the lives of many students who will grow up and become TEAM PLAYERS & LEADERS in the future.
You can make them or break them. Pick the first one!
Last, but not the least, Never let them see you sweat!

First, I would like to say congratulations on picking a satisfying career that actually changes some lives!

But, the one piece of solid advice that I can give you today is to keep your expectations realistic with all aspects of your teaching career.

** Finding a job is not easy.
** When you get a job, there is a good chance you will not be enfatuated right away.
** There will be days when your patience is tried and there will be days when you will feel completely fullfilled.

Just understand that some things we can control and some we can not. Manage that in which you can control and you will be fine. Keep your expectations in check and you will be fine.

Finally, just breathe and enjoy the ride. Expect the unexpected and relish in the wonderful.
