RVE HELP!!!!

Hello,

I have taken the VRA and missed by 5 points and then took the new test the RVE and missed by 6 points. Does anyone else have to take these tests? If you have passed or are currently trying to pass I am looking for any help, study guides, books to look over, or study groups.

THANK YOU!
Mrs. MB

I know exactly how you feel. But don't give up. I failed at least 9-10 times and when I finally passed I thought they were joking. I too, was missing it by a few points. 5-6 points.

Reading First academy (http://www.readingfirst.virginia.edu/) has some really cool stuff about reading instruction and terminolgy.

Google "Vocabulary quiz, Virginia reading assessment". You'll get some links to practice quizzes, some by Quia, which I use in my classroom to practice for SOLs. Helpful for brushing up on terminology.

The Cognitive Foundations of Learning to Read: A Framework, http://www.sedl.org/reading/framework/

Put Reading First, from the US Department of Education, is a thorough and accessible overview of reading instruction from first steps in print awareness through phonics, comprehension, and fluency: http://www.nifl.gov/partnershipforre...ng_first1.html.

Annenberg Media, http://www.learner.org, offers video on demand in reading, writing, literature, and more for grades K-12. You'll need broadband.

Carl’s Corner, http://www.carlscorner.us.com/, is a Web site chock full of lesson plans and other goodies in language arts from a veteran teacher.

ReadWriteThink, http://readwritethink.org/about.html distributes its lesson plans among three sections: Learning Language, Learning About Language, and Learning Through Language.

This isn't a basic skills test (like, say, Praxis I or VCLA) but rather a reading-instruction test, so let's move it to the proper forum.

Reading-instruction exams may test the material in slightly different ways, but they're all testing largely the same material. If you look around this forum, Mrs. MB, you'll find recommendations like teacher girl's for a range of reading-instruction exams including California's RICA.

Best of luck, and don't hesitate to ask here if you have questions.

Welcome to A to Z, momof24life. Mrs. MB launched this thread more than a year ago, so it's hard to say whether she's still working on this test.

Have you had reading instruction methodology coursework?
