A new guy here

Hello everyone!

I am not a teacher, but I am highly interested in pursuing a new career path. My job of 11 years is about to die off in less than a year. Due to this fact, I figured that there is no better time than the present to determine if this is the right career move for me!

I hope to learn quite a bit on this forum, as well as get motivation to chase a teaching cert.

I am debating on possibly becoming a substitute teacher to help me get a feel for teaching. I may just see if I can simply volunteer in a friends class to help her out (if the administrators allow it) and see how things are ran.

I currently have two business undergrads but I have zero experience in that area. Teaching would be a great way to help utilize my degrees, at least to get the cert!

I also hope to learn what area of study I wish to pursue (I am currently thinking about elementary). Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I will see you around the boards!

Welcome to the boards. I think volunteering and subbing are great ways to see if you would actually like to be a teacher. Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone! I am already starting to try to think up crafts and other projects for possible future elementary class use.

I do believe this could be the beginning of an addiction.

I guess it helps that I always like hands on items. I know there is more to teaching than just crafts, but I do like to get creative when I can.

I am in region 4. A friend recommended ACT Houston for my certification route.
