What can you tell me about the Common Core?

I have an interview this week, and will admit that I'm not as up-to-date on the Common Core as I'd like to be. Any helps is GREATLY appreciated!

I went to a Common Core workshop yesterday. Our state (Oklahoma) has them listed on their website. The main thing I noticed was a lot more writing objectives across the board. They seem to focus on not outcome but the process...after attending the workshop, the only thing that will change in my room is how I journal with kids. I will start doing more and in more areas. Math Their Way and Marilyn Burns seem to be more what it is about in math --- even though they don't say that. And English and Reading seems to focus on not only on outcome, but allowing students to produce works in English and to respond to more in Reading.

And they are not as wordy or confusing as our state objectives from the past.

What grade level is your interview for?

In the upper grades, the common core focuses on literacy across the curriculum. They include much more informational literary reading---teaching how to read nonfiction and explanatory and persuasive writing are stressed much more.
