I just looked at the 2004 version of this book today. It was given to me by a previous cooperating teacher!
The part I looked at was welcoming students back to school to set the tone in that you and the whole school believes in them. It had a picture of an invitation for a back to school celebration for a first grade class. Has anyone ever sent a certificate style invitation out to their students before the first day of school to get them excited for the first day?
I think this would be a really neat way of welcoming students back to school. They could come ready to share a treat and happily work together to plan the rules of the class for the school year. I think it would be a great way for students to build rapport with the new teacher right from the get-go.
