The time between after-school and dinner is my rough spot. I get so hungry and end up eating a lot or the wrong sorts of snacks (i.e., junky food). I'm looking for ideas for good, moderately healthy snacks that will tide me over until dinner. I'm especially interested in high protein foods.

Today I made a small wrap thingy with a tortilla, that spready Laughing Cow cheese, and some avocado slices. It was pretty tasty.

So, what's your favorite after-school snack?

Not hugely healthy, but a cup of tea and some toast.

That's when the thundering hoards don't hit me with "Mom, when's dinner???" the moment I step foot into the house.

If I don't have a yogurt for breakfast I like to have a greek yogurt for a snack. I also like a banana with peanut butter, I buy the individual servings (chocolate peanut butter is so good and great for cravings!). I also keep lof fat string cheese in my fridge at school to eat while I check my e-mail or type. I usually really just pack several snacks in my lunchbag and whatever I don't eat at lunch I eat for a snack.

Roasted chickpeas! Toss a drained can of chickpeas with whatever spices you like and roast at 350. Shake them around every 5 minutes or so until they are done (probably around 15 min, but do to your taste).

If you use Mexican seasoning like cumin and ancho chile, these make a great taco or burrito filling too.

I eat this at school/work too, but an apple with peanut butter always keeps me satisfied between meals. You could do celery too if you like it. I also like to crunch on simple salads. Lately I've been having this salad to snack on all day: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/korean-salad-with-sesame-dressing/. It's the type of salad you normally get when you have Korean BBQ, but we ate all the BBQ last week and I didn't want to stop eating the salad. I made a mason jar full of the dressing. It's spicy and delicious.

If I'm really tired I have a glass of skim milk. Another favorite snack is a blueberry oatmeal smoothie.
