your age when you first started teaching

    I was 21 and the parents thought I was 18! One parent who didn;t know I was the kindergarten teacher asked what grade I was in

    I started when I was 23, in 1978 , After my HS graduation I worked a year to save for college or would have started at 22. Still going strong (sort of)

    I was 23... though I started working at a Daycare when I was 17.

    Your age should help you establish authority in the classroom. A loud voice & an unwillingness to argue with students also go a long ways. Buena suerte....!:welcome:

    My BB retired navy in 74 and started teaching in 78 at the age of
    41 and taught K for about 22 years.

    I was on the older side, I got my 1st teaching job when I was 31.

    (I starting subbing at 24.)

    Age as a 2nd career teacher

    As a second career teacher, I started subbing at the age of 44. I am now 46 and will expect to get my prelim credential next June. So I guess I will be looking at starting as a rookie teacher at age 47!

    I am currently in school to teach now, but I think found out that I had a urge to teach many years ago. I went to college many years earlier, but dropped out a couple years later. Being between jobs, I decided to put my name in to substitute teach at my alma mater. I went into the classroom at about 19-20 and I found no problem asserting myself and getting them to listen and behave. Yes, I knew some of the students on a personal level, and I decided early that that could lead to a problematic situation in the future. I think it comes down to how well you carry yourself. Children of all ages can smell fear, and they will use that against you if they can find your weakness.
