Does anyone use this in their classroom? I am thinking about trying it since I have several students on a reduced spelling list anyway. Can you tell me what exactly I need, since I am buying all the materials myself? Thanks in advance.

I'm in grade three...pretty much most of my school uses WTW grades 2-4. I think in grade one they use the workbooks. Grades 2-4 use the books with sorts in them. I ave all four books with the word sorts in them plus the black book that outlines the philosophy and gives you preassessments to use plus sorting ideas. I ave 4 different spelling groups in my class and give 4 tests concurrently each Friday.:thumb:

Ditto. I don't use workbooks or anything, I have a consistent word study menu that students complete each week.

Is there anywhere to find the spelling placement test online?

I'm one of the few... the proud... the male elementary teachers... :)

(No offense taken, don't worry. I'd probably assume a third grade teacher was a male, too!)

Develop an organizational system for the weekly list as well as for storing the materials so you have them to reuse each year. For example, each group has a folder with the name of the students written on the front. Inside each folder are the sorts, blank tests, and a copy of the test to be given. I keep each set of lessons in a gold envelope that is clearly labeled. Each envelope is stored in order in a drawer.
