Yes, I make them from scratch. I just got the recipe from a Secret Restaurant Recipe cookbook but I can't remember which restaurant they are from lol

    Potatoes au Gratin
    4-5 russet potoes, peeled
    1 cup heavey cream
    1/2 cup milk
    1 1/2 tablespoons flour
    1 clove minced garlic
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon pepper
    Chives-to taste
    1 tablespoon butter
    1 1/2 grated cheese (I use cheddar)

Preheat oven to 400. Slice potatoes 1/4 inch thick (great if you have a mandolin). Beat together cream, milk, flour, garlic, salt, pepper. Coat baking dish with butter. Arrange 1/4 of the potatoes on the bottom of the dish. pur some cream mixture over potatoes. Sprinkle on chives. Repeat. If you run out of cream mixture and it doesn't slightly cover top of the potatoes I add a little more milk/cream.Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 40 minutes. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until brown on top.

This recipe is great but I find i have to add a few more seasonings (garlic powder, more salt and pepper).

Last night the "meatloaf night"....lol....we never have one of those with a salad, fresh fruit plate and smoothie. My 5 yr old can't eat a meal w/smoothies. Milk and fruit, no sugar, how can you go wrong with that!!

Tonight, out to the Mexican Restaraunt....YUM

Yes, I saw the Throwdown for Pad Thai and that is the recipe I used. I did put the soy sauce in it for the same reason Bobby Flay did--the color was off. Well, I have found one more recipe to try. When I find the "right" one, I will share.

Had dinner with my aunt, uncle and cousin. My uncle is a fabulous cook. We had chicken parm, pasta and homemade sauce.

I went out with an old friend and I had crabcakes and clam chowder. Really rich, and I am not feelin' so happy about it now.

Grill season is finally here (for me anyway)! Does anyone have any interesting things that you grill? Tonight I'm grilling turkey burgers and making mango salsa to put on them. On the side we're having spicy corn and black bean salad.

We had lamb that I cooked in the crock pot. I added carrots and potatoes during the last 2 hours. It was very tender and juicy. It will be lamb stew tomorrow. I am looking for a lemon cream pie recipe.

We had lamb stew and cheese bread for dinner. I did find a lemon cream pie recipe--and we had it for dessert. I think we will have chicken curry for dinner tomorrow, as DD and I are going shopping tomorrow. We are starting early, so will have to start the day by eating breakfast out.

Tonight we took advantage of the gorgeous weather we've been having and grilled. We had pork chops and baked potatoes. Since it's supposed to be nice again tomorrow, I think I'll grill burgers or chicken.

I haven't pulled my grill out lately either.

Right now, we're having days of rain. We need it to stop so that the fields will dry out and the farmers can plant their corn.

Last night - shepherd's pie, cranberry sauce, carrots/cauliflower with dip, and apricots.

    Tonight - leftover shepherd's pie!

Would you mind sharing your shepherd pie recipe? Is it like a pot pie?

I don't really have a recipe! It's just one of those throw-together things I do.
meat (either ground beef or cut-up beef: browned), whatever mixed vegetable stuff I have (cut-up), cream of mushroom/celery soup, mushrooms, seasonings, mashed potatoes on top (or you could use tater tots)

    Nothing fancy! ;)
