Is it ok to "throw" them in the recycling bin? Is it dangerous to keep the child's name on or should I just rip out the first page with the name on it?

I have kept my son's K-2 journals/notebooks etc and it is piling up now - I did keep aside a few papers from each year as mementoes.

I would just throw it in recycle bin. Its not a bad idea to take the kids name out, but I dont think it is prudent. Its just not that big of a deal.

I try to remember to send that type of stuff home at the end of the year. If they don't take it, then I toss it.

As a teacher I recycle or throw away tons of student papers.

Anything that didn't go into a portfolio to be sent to their future teacher went home at the end of the year or was tossed then. I don't think it's a big deal to toss them or see if their new teacher possibly wants them. In my school all kids (for the most part) loop from grade to grade so its easy for me to hand important stuff off to the next teacher. That might not be so easy in your school. Don't go nuts- they won't miss it.

Is the op asking about her own child's notebooks or those of last year's class?
