    Hi Teachers,
What do you call the night when parents come and hear about your curriculum and classroom? Do you have one of these?

I am going to be presenting to new teachers on how to start the new year/classroom organization/management and all that fun stuff. We call it curriculum night. I was planning to do a segment on preparing for that event and what to address. However, since I'm presenting out of state I'm wondering if it is a regional thing.

    Thanks, Jodi

We have meet the teachers where they just come and chit, chat with us. Very informal.
Curriculum night is when they learn about the meat of the school year (standards, curriculum, assessments, routines/ procedures, etc.)

Meet the Teacher Night--we hold it during the third week of school. It's typically been very informal at my school, but we have new admin this year, so we may have to do a more formal presentation.

We called it Back to School Night and it was held the week before school started. About the third week, we held Curriculum Night and that was structured, teachers presented, parents followed shortened student schedules.

I teach at a K-12 school and we call it Open House. High school students come in to pick up their schedules and elementary students come with their parents to meet the teacher and bring supplies.

Meet the teacher is before school and is very informal. Open House is after school starts and is also informal. Curriculum night is a presentation.

We have Open House before school begins, but it is really more of a meet and greet. Parents learn about what we will be teaching via our course expectations that are handed out on the first day.

I've heard it as Open House, Back to school and Meet the Teacher. It's pretty much all the same no matter what you call it.

We have two separate nights for meeting the teacher and learning about the curriculum. The first is Back to School night in mid-August. The second is Curriculum night. This usually takes place in mid-September.

At one school I worked for we called it PIE night. Parent Informational Evening. The PTA sold pie slices! At the school I am now, we call it Curriculum Night.

Back to school is 1-2 weeks into school to go over expectations and generally what you do. (Teachers make presentations) Open House is a big deal closer to the end of school to show off what you've been doing. (Teachers do a lot of chatting)
