I took the VCLA this morning and now I'm freaking out. My unofficial score is Reading - 80% and Writing - 71%. I know that they still need to score the composition.

I hate having to wait for my official results to get here to tell me if I passed or not.

Do you think I passed? Thanks for your help!

If you wrote a decent essay, you're probably fine.

bwstump, do you mind if I ask what your raw score was for your writing section? I know it depends on how they judge your essays but I also got a 71% on my writing multiple choice and I just want to know if I have a shot of passing.

That is SOOO great to hear :) Thanks so much!

NOVAgradstudent I think you will be fine! Since a "passing" VCLA score is composite if you received a high score on your reading multiple choice you should do just fine!

Now I'm really worried not to mention I'm so sick today and took VCLA. My scores say 62% reading and 88% writing.... Can I pass with this?

Well, don't quote me... but the average of 62% and 88% is 75%, and that's on track for passing on most teacher tests. I don't recall, however, whether VCLA has an essay component for which you don't have results yet.

    Just took VCLA today...

I took the VCLA and scored 77% on each subtest prior to the scoring of the essays. I hope that's passing. I scored a 191 on the 5041 Praxis, so not only would I be crestfallen, I'd be bewildered. :dizzy: Anyone with VCLA experience out there to give me an idea?

    Teacher2013, congratulations!

Chaotic_Freedom, I like your username. If your performance on the essays corresponds to your performance on the multiple choice questions, I'd expect you to pass.

I would like to know if anyone has taken the vcla recently. I took it and received 80% on writing and my score stayed at 200 and this was my 3rd time taking it. My pervious raw scores were lower and my score was higher I don't understand can anyone help me?

It's next to impossible to write a decent set of test questions that are exactly equivalent in difficulty. It's even harder to write several entire versions of a test that are exactly equivalent in difficulty. This is one reason that scaled scores exist: if in the test company's eyes version A of test X is harder than version B, then the scaled score that corresponds to X number of questions right will be higher in the case of version A than of version B. It would seem that the first two versions of VCLA that you took were more challenging in Pearson's estimation than the version that you encountered recently.

Kimberly, your grammar portion score is strong. So, congrats to that! I would look into what they want for the essay portion as it seems to be the moving factor. Last summer, I scored eighty-something percent on the reading. I don't remember that exact score. I scored 97% on the multiple choice portion of the writing. When I got my final scores, my reading score was much, much higher than my writing. My low scores on the essay portion changed it that much. I apparently did not write the essays anywhere near the way they want. Writing has never been my strength, but I was surprised to see it was so poor as to change my scores that much. But, some friends have since told me they're probably looking for a particular template of paragraphs and nothing more. I studied in a different state and didn't know much about this test prior to taking it. Maybe an English major could help give you pointers in how to strengthen the essays?

Hello, I took the writing part and had a raw score of 80% and when I received my results last Friday I failed with a 218, which has happen on several occasions. It depends on the person grading your essays. Good luck to you!!
