Hello, This is my first post. This morning i took the CBEST Math and Reading. I got 67 and 55 which represents a total of 122. Does it mean that i need only "1" at the writing to pass the CBEST ? Does the CBEST permanent verification card show the individual scores? or just Pass ? Thanks a lot, Cheers Roland
Hello, Roland, and welcome to A to Z. It's true that one rule for CBEST passing is that the total score has to be 123 or greater, and you're certainly almost there. But there's another rule: that no section score may be below 37. As long as you score 37 or more on the essay section, you'll pass.
so I guess it is important to have good scores. If i retake the test, would it show the best score or all the scores?
Actually, I don’t think employers care what your individual scores are on the CBEST. They just want to see that you passed. For example, I got a perfect score on the math and reading sections, but a so-so score on the writing section (it was like 45). I worried that my lackluster writing score would affect my employability, but none of the districts I interviewed at years ago cared one bit. They just wanted me to be licensed in my Subject area and qualified.
Pearson issues a score verification card on the score report that indicates that one has passed the whole of CBEST. Current score verification cards show the test taker's name and some other information (older versions show birthdate and SSAN), plus the crucial word PASSED - but no scores. I don't THINK employers don't care what the specific scores are, I KNOW they don't, or at least that CTC strongly prefers that they not care.
