This morning, we began our human body unit. As an intro to the digestive system, I gave them each a saltine cracker, and told them to think about what was happening to the crackers as they chewed it, after they swallowed it, etc. I referred to the cracker a few times throughout the lesson (your cracker moved down your esophagus, it is now in your stomach, next it will move to your small intestines...).

After taking a bathroom break in the afternoon, one of my students came up to me, and he was very excited to let me know that his cracker "came out."

The neat thing about the cracker is if the students keep it in their mouths long enough, the cracker will start tasting sweet because the enzymes in saliva are already breaking down the cracker! I am sure you already know this, but my kids love it.

That's so funny! I remember once a student, instead of just asking if he could go to the bathroom, asked if he could go to the bathroom because he had to poop......I really didn't need to know all the details...lol

Ugh, I had a kid go to the restroom once, then come back and keep squirming in his seat. Finally he raised his hand and asked if he could please go back to the bathroom because he still had "poo in his butt" and it was itchy. YECK!

Wow! LOL....It's those times that I wonder what life is like for people in "normal" jobs! Probably a lot less entertaining!
