Does anyone have any time savers or tips for grading writing, such as paragraphs, essays, and stories?

If you use Google Docs, I'd suggest either of these add-ons, Orange Slice or WriQ.
Also, check out Laura Randazzo on Youtube.

Don't mark it up. Use a rubric to score it, identify a couple positives, and identify just one or two key areas that they need to grow in. Ideally you'd then be able to meet with them to look at that whether when looking over that piece of writing or know what to focus on in a conference or small group work with them in the next bit of writing.

(BTW, I say this as I'm catching up on grading writing. Soooooo, yeah... :p)
