I received a few gifts from students and I want to write them thank you notes. Does anyone have a "template" for thank you notes? In addition, do you mail it to the students' home or give it to the student after break?

I mail it (I'm in elementary, though), as it's a fun thing for kids to get mail over the break from their teacher. Plus, I love that it avoids any worry of the kids seeing certain kids getting cards and others not.

    My usual routine is:
    "Thank you for ____"
"-something describing my use of it, how I plan to use it, any reactions, etc..."
"-some kind of 'hope you're having a great break'"
and then a thanks again with a signature at the bottom.

Personal, but doesn't require you to come up with something new each time.

I opened gifts on the last day of school and quickly wrote thank you notes that day. I follow much the same format as mathmagic.

I do the same. I hand out as many as I can and mail the rest. This year I added that it was so kind of them to think of me. I like to remind my middle schoolers what kindness looks like.

I will try to send them out in the mail! I agree that I do not want it to be awkward to give to only 1-2 kids in front of the other kids. I like the idea of "kindness" as well. Thanks!!

I give mine out when we come back to school and my partner teacher does the same (we share 48 kids on a team with half in her homeroom and half in mine and any kid that gives a gift always gives to both of us). My format for the note is quite similar. I never thought about mailing them but maybe I'll do that next year. Nice to get something in the mail during break.

I always do a hand written thank you note. My daughter's second grade teacher had a photo copy of a generic thank you that she signed. No personal note of any kind added to it. I already wasn't crazy about her as a teacher which is why it probably stood out to me that she didn't take the time to write a personal note. Even if they all say the same thing, it's just polite to hand write them! Considering my daughter is now in 11th grade you'd think I'd be over this, but nope LOL!
