If this is not allowed please remove. I am a graduate student in Speech-Language Pathology conducting a research project which looks at teachers' awareness of voice use. The survey is completely anonymous, all multiple choice, and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Thank you so much!

I filled it out... There were a couple areas that were a little unclear. For example, I know that long-term damage to your voice is possible (I was a vocal music major as an undergrad, and more than one of my classmates ended up with nodes), but I also know some of the differences between minor throat overuse and major throat overuse... like, if I was showing signs of nodes, I'd go to my PCP for a referral, but if I had a busy day with a really loud activity that required me to speak over 135 screaming eight year olds, I'd suck down some cough drops, drink a cup or two of Throat Coat, and shut up for a day or two... there were a couple questions where I was kind of guessing about your intent.

    Okay, done :)

I've never had my voice go out because of teaching specifically, but there have been times when I've been sick that my voice would probably have been okay, had I not been using my "teacher voice" all day long. So, it was hard to know what to choose for days like that. I usually drink lots of tea and water, suck on hard candy or a throat drop, and talk as little as possible.

I have used a teaching microphone before, and man, I loved that thing. I think that most American teachers would view the practice as funny or unnecessary, but I'd like to try one in my current classroom.

Thanks for your feedback! I definitely understand the points you're making but I would rather not address them just yet so anyone who wants to take the survey can "go in blind" so to speak. It's great that you have that background knowledge of voice and possible effects that teaching can have, you're already one step ahead! If there is any interest perhaps when I finish the research I can come back and share my results and the possible implications it may have for teachers :)

You're right when you say people look at the microphone as funny and unnecessary and I have no clue why! It's such a small simple change that can greatly affect a teacher's voice and sanity if you ask me :) Thanks for participating!

I love using my microphone and many teachers at my school use one as well. I wouldn't want to teach without one.

Done! This is my first year teaching, and I was shocked at how hoarse I was at the end of each day during the first few weeks. It's not such an issue anymore though.
