One of the Indiana State Standards is to compare versions of the same story from different cultures.

We are going to be doing different versions of Cinderella. I was wondering if anyone eles has another good ideas for books/stories that we could use?

    Thanks

For Cinderella the list is very long -- Yeh Shin, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, and about a dozen more.

If you are looking for other stories to compare, what about Little Red Riding Hood, Lon Po Po, and Pretty Salma?

The first thing I thought of was all the versions of Gingerbread Man. The text may be easy but you could have wonderful activities.

    Gingerbread man
    Runaway Rice Cake
    Musubi Man
    Runaway Latkes
    Runaway Tortilla
    Gingerbread cowboy
    Jalapeno Man
    Matzo Ball Boy
    Runaway Pancake

    I'm sure there are more.

oops, I just realized I read your post wrong. I agree with the Gingberbread Man though, I have the Matzah Man and my class loves it.

I have read three different versions of Cinderella to my 2nd graders. I have read The Irish Cinderlad by Shirley Climo, Cendrillion by Robert D. San Souci (Caribbean Cinderella tale), and Smoky Mountain Rose by Alan Schroeder (Appalachian Cinderella tale).

You can read The Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Hawaiian Pigs and the Magic Shark by Donivee Martin Laird. I've never read the book, but I found it by googling "Three Little Pigs different cultures", you could probably find more by doing the same.
I had to do a similar project at school and just went to the bookstore and looked through the children's books. It was easy to find them. The children's librarian at the public library can probably help you out too, if your school library does not have a good selection.

The Three Javelina's is also a Three Little Pigs story.

3 Little Pigs and the big bad wolf
3 Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig
    3 Little Javelinas
True Story of the 3 Little Pigs (from Wolf's point of view)

I also do about 4 or 5 Cinderella stories.

We compare and contrast and do projects.
