I'm looking for some more creative ideas for my spelling center. Normally, the kids do rainbow words or spell them with letter tiles. They do fine with this but the problem is some kids are fast finishers and I don't want them to get burnt out with these two activities. Any other ideas?

    White boards
Word hunt in room looking for more word that fit the spelling pattern
Make word searches with the spelling words, copy and have a pile ready for early finishers

Letter stamps, playdough letter stamps, tracing letters with a tack (put the paper on top of a carper square and pike it with the tack). An easy and fun one that takes no real materials is to buy or print the letters in sign language and have the kids fingerspell their words. It is great for fast finishers because they don't have to finish anything and can do it for 2 minutes or 10.

I also do pryamid words, wikki stix words, draw a picture to show the meaning of each word, and sailboat words. Sometimes, i will make a menu of choices for spelling center for the week. The kids choose which activity they will do for that day, and if they finish early, they get to choose another activity!

I do a lot of the ideas already mentioned but I also have my kids work together to give each other "practice spelling tests" sounds simple, but they love it. They have to say the word and use it in a sentence like I do when I give them their actual test :)

To make words, my students use geoboards, base ten blocks, play dough, shaving cream, samrtboard, MS word, old typewriter, locate thier word in dictionary...

I love these ideas, especially the sign language! I'm looking for a chart to print out now. I think my kiddos will love it, and it's something so good for them to be exposed to!

I use spelling centers in my classroom and some of my favorites are window markers, cell phone spelling, bingo dotters, stamping, gel pens, colored chalk on black construction paper and my kiddos all time favorite is Spelling City. There are tons of free games and you can even enter your own spelling lists and store them from year to year!

I love Spelling City, but haven't used it as much as I'd like this year. I'll definitely try to involve it more next year.
