Currently I am working at an elementary school part time (a non-teaching position) and am working on my Elementary Education and Special Education certification. There are often full time Special Education para jobs at high schools open. I have applied for those positions in the past because I was an intern at a high school when I was in college. I've even had a couple of interviews. I don't know if it would make sense to keep applying for junior high and high school jobs or not. What do you think?

It's going to depend on what is expected in your state of district. I have worked in districts where paras in SPED are working on, or have acquired their Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate. It is often a stopping off point before acquiring a SPED teacher position. I have read, however, that some districts have minimal requirements, so that would be different and out of my expertise.
