We've done several of these through here, but not sure if there's one going on at the moment... I love them, and if anyone else is interested, we can set one up on elfster :)

I had a very generous secret pal last year. I received a gorgeous new classroom carpet.

I've done it a few times here - Wasn't I your SP once Erin? It's a good time as long as everyone participates!

Last year we did an ornament exchange for the holidays and that was so much fun. I loved the one I got.

Another time we did a secret pal that lasted over several months. I think that one fell apart a little bit. I have to admit that I was kind of a lousy pal that time, after the first month. It was around the beginning of school and the holidays and I think things just got crazy for people. So you might think about doing it in a way that people can participate on a month to month basis.

I set up an online ornament exchange, and I would be happy to do the secret pals thing. However, we need to set up some guidelines (how much to spend, how often to send gifts, etc.) Any ideas?

Oh yes:D. I live in Canada though, so with the extra s&h costs, I don't expect my gift to equal the maximum amount of money one can spend.

I think we should have monthly themes and we should do it for Oct., Nov. and Dec. We could start a new one up in February if people are still interested. Gifts can be due the 2nd week of every month. Maybe we can spend $10-15/month.

    Oct. - Halloween
    Nov. - ?
    Dec. - Everything Christmas.

I would join, that sounds like fun! Would it be things for our classroom or just things in general?

On Elfster there is a section that you can tell your secret pal about yourself - likes/dislikes. It also allows your SP to ask you questions. I'm thinking that we'll let people decide if they want things for the classroom or for themselves.

I've also never done it on AtoZ, but my school does it yearly. This year, we're doing "sister teachers" as we have no men on staff, and it isn't optional or secret. They paired us up by putting us with people we don't usually get to see in the building and each week, we have a theme - classroom management, guided redaing, etc - that we are supposed to spend time discussing.

Not nearly as much fun as getting gifts, I say!
