Resouce organization: by type or theme?

    I teach 5th grade science and I'm wondering if it is easier to organize stuff by theme or by type.

    For example; all space science resources together OR all warm-ups together, all exit tickets together, all articles together, etc.

    Thoughts?

    P.S. I like going digital but when the internet at school is down (which happens often) it'd be nice to have a hard copy to use at the printer.

    I have a binder for each unit I teach (for every subject). So, if I had four different topics I needed to cover for the year in science, I would have four binders. It keeps everything I need for each unit in one place. It does also mean that I have a filing cabinet full of binders, but it works for me.

    Topic organization is nice because that is typically how you use it. :)
    By type is helpful if you change your topics/units every year.

    I organize by topic/theme, since that's how I teach. If I organized by type, I'd always be looking for something. It's nice to be able to pull out my "5 senses" file and have everything there.

    I think it would be helpful to organize by topic so you have all of the resources for one unit together and you don't need to go through multiple folders. You could even organize by day and have a folder for each day.

    I organize by topic/unit. I wouldn't be able to deal with all of the different files that I'd have to pull and searching that I'd have to do if I organized by type of document.

    I have big binders for each unit of work. I try to organise each big binder week by week, so the resources are in order.
