Hello. With the end of the year fast approaching, I am thinking about graduation songs for my pre-k kids who will be going to Kindergarten next year. I have been teaching pre-k for a while and would like some new ideas for songs. If you have any songs, please share them. I appreciate any ideas. Thank you. Have a great night.

This is my first year teaching pre-k. I've been looking for a month for some cute songs to sing at graduation. I've come up with the following.

    We are doing....

    The Pledge

    ABC song with sign language

    Month Song

Color Farm (Dr Jean - Sing to learn)

    The Butterfly
    (Tune: "Up on the Housetop")
First comes the butterfly who lays an egg.
    (Clasp thumbs and wiggle fingers.)
Out comes a caterpillar with many legs.
    (Wiggle index finger.)
Oh, see the caterpillar spin and spin,
    (Roll hands.)
A little chrysalis to sleep in.
(Insert right index finger in left fist.)
Oh, oh, oh, look and see.
    (Hands over eyes.)
Oh, oh, oh, look and see.
Out of the chrysalis, my, oh, my,
    Out comes a beautiful butterfly.
    (Clasp thumbs and make butterfly.)

    What a wonderful day!
    Zippity do dah, Zippity-ay
My, oh my, what a wonderful day.
Plenty of family and friends, too.
Celebrating the end of pre-k 2l!
    Kindergarten here we come.
Clap your hands, beat the drums
    We are ready, everyone!
    Zippity-do-dah, Zippity-ay
    Graduation’s a wonderful day!

I use CD's for them to sing along with...it fills in nicely to have the back up. So far this year, they are singing Rain Rain Go Away and It's Raining It's Pouring(walking out carrying umbrellas,) then they will form a circle and do The Farmer In The Dell, (go back to their steps and stand and sing Goin' To THe Zoo, How Much Is THat Doggie in the Window(holding stuffed animals(dogs) and they will finish with their prayer that they have said all year long. We have started to have our graduation out on the playground. After singing they get their diplomas and then we all socialize and eat.

I'm not sure where this song came from; I "borrowed" it from another teacher!

To the tune of The Addams Family

    We've learned our ABC's
    And counting 1 2 3's
And now we know all these
Our Pre-K class (or Our Kindergarten class)

    We've learned how to share
    We've learned how to care
Just ask us if you dare
    Our Pre-K class

    It seems it's just begun
    And now it's almost done
It's all been so much fun
    Our Pre-K class

Now we must say so long
    With this our little song
But we'll be back ere long
    Our Pre-K class

I make it a point to explain that "ere long" means before long, or not too long. It helps them understand it AND it helps them sing the line correctly.

I have always been a big fan of song hits from the radio. I have used "I'm coming out"- (I want the world to know, got to let it show...)

Stand By Me -Ben E. King

Proud to be an American-by ???

There's a song by R. Kelly- I'm sorry that I can't remember the name but it goes something like "I'm that star up in the sky, I'm that mountain way up high."

From the Sound of Music, My Favorite Things

I've also used The Wheels on the Bus
and The More We SingTogether from Wee Sing.

    Graudation Songs

I wanted to let you know that Lee Greenwood sings "Proud to be an American." I always have the children sing as a dedication song to their parents, Rod Stewart's "Have I told you lately." The parents love it. Google graduations songs and a million sites will come up. Good Luck!

"We Can Build Our Dreams" is a great graduation. Check out the song and lyrics at ggaarecords website. google

Some schools will be using this song for graduation this March and April 2009. The students like the song so much. :):):)

I don't know where I got this, so I can't give credit. Its short, simple, and cute. The tune is the Oscar Mayer weiner song.

Oh, I'm ready to go off to kindergarten,
that is where I really want to be.
Cause when I get to go to kindergarten,
everyone will be so proud of me!

We have done If I Were A Butterfly, I like Me, The World is A Rainbow, If All the Raindrops were Lemon Drops and Gumdrops, Down by the Bay, We also have someone read a poem and we write a class poem each year with allt he kids names in it and we do the pledge with one of the children leading it and another one holding the flag. We also present a power point slide show to music with photos of each child from infancy through the present , with special famous quotes about children between each child's section and sections of drawings that they have done of "when I grow up I want to . ." and "if i could give the world one gift i would give......" . the first section is always the song Mr. Mom with random photos that match up with the words. (we ask the parents to send in phots but don't tell them what we are using them for. I promise them we will not cut them or alter them in any way and that it is for a special graudation project. The parents have always been very co-operative).
