    Hello all,

I am looking for some great advice about the Praxis II 5018 test that recently changed in September 2014. I am scheduled to take the test on December 18th, and I have been studying with the learning express praxis 2 5014 study guide because I have been unsuccessful at finding updated study guides and practice tests, hence the recent test change. I have taken the 5018 last month and missed it by 17 points, and another time before and missed it by 6 points. Any and all help, suggestions, or comments would be extremely helpful.

    Thanks

Which domains (reading/language arts, math, science, social studies) seem to be giving you grief according to your score reports?

Good improvement in math! Looks like you've got a fair bit of work to do in science and social studies, and it seems that the reading/language arts is giving you a bit more grief.

For help with science and social studies, and in a package that's likely to be helpful in your future classroom, you might see if your local Costco has Knowledge Encyclopedia (ISBN 978-1-4654-1417-5) in among its children's-gift-book offerings this holiday season.

For reading/language arts, have you any idea what happened?

    Also taking Praxis II 5018

Hey I noticed your thread. I am signed up to take the exam soon. Do you have any info on it considering you took it once already. I just did a 04 practice exam. Is it pretty similar? I also purchased practice tests from praxisprep I have been averaging over my minimum but not by much. Any information will be good information. I just want to maximize my studying, and be as efficient as I can be.

Thanks!! and good luck on your 5018 exam!

How did it go? What was your raw score out of the 140 questions verses the scaled score? I just took the 5018 in January. I got 104/140 raw points.
Update: received scaled score of 188

    Hi,

I noticed you took the 5018 & got 104/140 ~188. I just got that on my practice exam through ETS and was wondering how that translated; you only have to have a 163 if I'm not mistaken to pass 5018.

I am going to look further; but was just browsing forums trying to decipher my practice scores to see what/ where I could bump up or if that was even passing.

Please let me know if you did pass & if 188 was your final score with that raw 104/140!

    Thanks,
    Jessica:haha:

Update: I finally passed the 5018 test with a 178 scaled score (I only need a 163). After many failed attempts, I finally can relax and wait on my acceptance to graduate school now, hopefully !! Good Luck to any future test-takers, and remember to utilize the study company on ETS, and purchase the practice test from ETS as well. I never gave up, and neither should you because once you finally pass there will be no time like the present.

Future Coach, You must have taken the test close to when I did... I am waiting on my results as well. Did you find out yet? If so, what was your raw score and what was your weighted score?

    Thanks!

Do you remember how many you got right when you missed it by 7 points?

Experience suggests that, IF Praxis tells a test taker a preliminary score is a passing score, that doesn't change. In the years that the Examinations for Teachers forum has been in place, I can't think of one time when PASSED has turned to NOT PASSED in the absence of malfeasance on someone's part.

What makes the mapping from practice test to the real thing tricky is precisely the reason that scaled scores exist: questions can and do vary in difficulty, so that 104 raw points on test version A of 5018 may yield a scaled score of 188, but on test version B the same number of raw points could yield a scaled score that's higher or lower. The goal is that each scaled score of 188 on a given test correspond to the same level of performance. But the practical result is that obsessing over a handful of raw points while waiting for one's official score report is generally kind of fruitless.

I guess it's true every test is different. The first time I took it I scored

    22 out of 41
    22 out of 36
    10 out of 21
    12 out of 21
Which is your same 66 and I scored a 142... I'm now waiting on my scores where I scored 77 out of 140 but I think I'm about to start back studying because it doesn't seemed like I passed

Ah: now we have confirmation that 5018 includes some non-scoring questions. How do I know? Try adding Futurecoach's "out of" numbers - that is, 41 + 36 + 21 + 21. That sum is NOT 140.
