I took 5018 on last Thursday and received a score of *153. This is the breakdown:
    Reading: 30
    Math: 18
    SS: 14
    Science: 12
    =74
I guess I'm confused on how they are scoring this test. In a previous post I saw where someone received that same score and passed. Can someone help me understand this. I am in Louisiana.

    Hugs, DezMatthews.

5018 exists in more than one version. Test versions differ in difficulty, simply because it's darned hard to write even two questions that are exactly equal in difficulty, let alone several test versions' worth of questions. That being the case, a raw score of 74 on one version of 5018 can't really be directly compared to a raw score of 74 on a different version. Scaled scores adjust for those differences in difficulty, with the result that a scaled score of 153 on ANY version of 5018 reflects the same level of performance.

Does anyone know if or when they are going to do away with Praxis Exam 5018?

This being a Praxis test that isn't state-specific, a better question is whether a state in which you're interested is going to stop using it. And for that, I shrug: no idea.

Hey y'all I just took my praxis 5018 today, first timer here, but I'm a bit confused with the score. The screen showed:
    *188
    34
    34
    19
    17
What's exactly that? Would the 188 be my score?? What are those other numbers?? Can anyone help me figure out this??

34, 34, 19, and 17 are your raw scores for the four sections of 5018. 188 is your unofficial scaled score overall, and - barring what Praxis delicately calls "testing irregularities" - I would expect to see it unchanged on the official score report that you'll receive in due course.

Let me offer unofficial congratulations. Please check back in when you get your official score report, and I will be happy to make my congratulations official too.

I just finished taking the Praxis 5018

    My score was a 160
Wishful question: Has anyone's official score ever been different from your unofficial one that you saw on the screen after your test?

    Reading: 33
    Math 23
    Social Studies: 12
    Science: 14

I needed a 163 so Im pretty upset that I was so close today. I've already signed up to take the test again 21 days from tomorrow and I'm so determined to pass it. Those of you who have made multiple attempts: Did you feel like the different versions of the test were wildly different? I know the science and social studies are probably quite different but what about the math and reading? I really really want to do well this second time so that a third try is not in my future.

Hugs, Crd209. But the bad news is also the good news: you came quite close.

What have you been using to study?

I studied using the praxis tests on the ets website and The Learning Express book that someone on here recommended. I basically read through that entire book and took the practice test questions in there. I saw that someone mentioned the crash course videos on youtube and I watched a few of those before the test as well.

Moving forward, I think I will focus a lot of attention on math concepts and understanding those. I also have room for improvement in reading. Social Studies and Science are tough because I hate to spend hours and hours on info that doesnt appear. I plan to print the study companion and make sure I understand every skill listed.

When you learn a new thing in science, think about what it helps explain in your everyday life. You're studying Newton's laws of motion? Cool, and the next time you drive your car or walk the dog, identify the forces, accelerations, and motion involved. (Remember that, in science-ese, "acceleration" is a change in speed that CAN include slowing down.) You're studying plants? Cool: commune with a plant - a houseplant will certainly do - and label its parts and tell yourself about what plants do for us. You're studying the rock cycle? Cool: make yourself a cup of hot chocolate, pay attention to the sediment that forms in the bottom of the cup, and imagine eons worth of sediment piling up in the world's tallest cup and the pressure and resulting heat combining to form sedimentary chocolate at the bottom. (Far-fetched? Yes. Memorable, too, though, right?)

For social studies, look for patterns. One big pattern: The US Constitution and its amendments, and shifts in who is allowed to vote and to hold office (that's civics) reflect US history and sociology. It might help to think of history as the world's longest running soap opera.

Has anyone ever had their official score report show a different score than the unofficial one they saw after the test? I’ve heard that occasionally there will be a slight change in points from the unofficial score.

I took the praxis today, with 140 total questions. At the end of the test it gave me a score of 158? My scores for each area were
    Reading/26
    Math/24
    SS/14
    Science/16

Does anyone know if this is passing?
