Do you do a Back to School Parent letter? With the change to CCSS (for the state) and 3rd grade (for me), I cannot use the letter that I have pretty much recycled for the past few, lol. It will be the first exposure to CCSS for most of my parents, so I want to help them understand the new (higher) expectations for our kiddos, in addition to the standard "hello this is me, here are our rules, this is how homework is handled, etc." information. I'd love to read what y'all write! Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure where they got them, but our principal gave us a copy of "refrigerator common core" standards that hit the highlights in parent friendly language. I only have a hard copy, and it's fifth grade, but you could probably do a quick Internet search for something similar and attach it to your parent letter.

Thanks for the link pwhatley! Now I don't have to dig through my file cabinets wondering where I stuck my extra. :)

I will address it at our Curriculum Night with the parents, but probably not in a welcome letter. I think the 2nd grade info would be best at the start of year and then maybe a summary at the start of each unit.

Also, thanks for the link. It's a good summary, but at quick glance I noticed a few things missing. If you are going to share it with parents you may want to add the missing info (esp. telling time as that is one they can certainly help with at home).

We have exactly 10 minutes with parents at back-to-school night. :(. I think I'm gonna do it by units. I'm just trying to get an overview (This is what your third grader should be able to do by the end of the year) for the parents.
