There are better districts to which you should apply. Paterson and Newark are inner city, low SES, gigh piverty and crime and violence. Toull get a job. Butcat what cost.

They will get teachers. Why are you so hard over these districts? Go teach there if you are so inclined. At least Im honest.

I see both sides of this. Sure, these students deserve good teachers, but at the same time, districts like these can make someone who would be a great teacher in the burbs leave the profession thinking they are unfit. I know I would not do well in a school like those. It takes a special type of person, and I think all too often people take those jobs, rather than holding out, just because they are the first ones to offer.

In NJ, these districts pay well, often have great technology, and strong union representation. I understand the gig is not for everyone, but that really is for them to decide.

I tried to teach there. Out of college, I emailed every elementary school principal in the nearest urban districts directly with cover letter pasted into email body and resume attached.

Why would you want to teach there? That’s like opting to lodge in a Motel 6 when you have the Marriott Hotel across the street.

    No thank you.

Oh whoops. I read through the entire article and skipped over the title. I even watched the video, haha.

I agree. Let’s make other states like California!!!

    "By invitation only"----sounds exclusive!

I remember I applied there around 6 years ago when I was applying, and never got any callback. Given they have something like 6 high schools, I was surprised as most places at least interviewed me since HS math is in demand. My district is much smaller, and academically ranks much better, so it ended up for the better for me, but guess they didn't like me there lol.

My district has a few vacancies at this time, but not much at the elementary level other than a media specialist and a reading specialist...though I don't see elementary listed at Freehold here either so that's a tough market. We are not nearly big enough to need to have a job fair.

Good news: As far as I know, if you have a certificate for New York State teaching, it would be the equivalent of many other states.

Now, going from New Jersey to New York State.......is a different story. In this case, you'll have to receive a new certificate with new coursework.
