Is there an area on the forum specifically for posting about this?

I am planning to do the work for my National Board certification during the 09-10 school year. I'd love to connect with other teachers.

    Who here is already certified?

I was going to do the National Board Certification, but I just found out that the extra stipend is not going to be paid by the state because of budget cuts. There is no real incentive to do it now. I might look into getting my masters instead. My friend finished hers about three years ago, and she said it was a lot of research and paper writing. GOOD LUCK!

Well, I guess I won't be going to the meetings. No incentive for me either

Yes, I haven't heard anything official about our stipend, either. But I am applying for the state to cover the expense of it ($2200 out of the $2500). My district offers a stipend, also. At least for now. Who knows what it will be like by the time I'm certified (potentially 2010-2011 school year).

I know several people who have gone through the process and I am kind of looking at it as a way to improve my teaching.

We're guaranteed $5,000 for ten years for certification. The State also provides grants for funding the experience.

Good thread! I wish I could start now but I gotta wait till after my third year. I've heard it greatly improves your teaching and is extremely intense.

Good luck if you decide to go through with it!
