I've been blow drying my hair differently and noticed that my blow-dryer sparks inside by the coils. Is this normal or is it time to get a new one?

My power screwdriver sparks too. My husband thinks it's funny.

If the air intake is all clogged with dust, it will run hotter and perhaps spark a little.

I had one actually detonate on me.

EEEK! That is not cool... definitely fix or replace. Imagine if one of the sparks landed in your hair!

Make sure the intake is free from dust. Mine will start to smell when it gets too dusty. Once it sparks it's done.

Me too! Mine didn't so much explode as catch on fire. Luckily I was holding it well away from my hair.

Please, go to Target or wherever and get a new hairdryer! Sparks are dangerous!

    Electrical sparks near wet hair????

Hair dryers are cheap-- if yours is clean and still spaking, trash it and invest in a new one.

Mine sparked and then a flame shot out and scorched the wall. I can't get the grey mark off the paint. I got a new one on sale at Walgreen's for $12.99.

As someone who just went through the tragedy of a house fire, I cannot express enough the danger of even the smallest spark. Throw it out and get a new one. (Please) :0)

Ms. I, do you like that blow dryer? Does the straightening attachment work well?

I actually haven't used my new dryer yet, but when I do, I'll post back here or PM you! It seems good & heats up fast.

My mom was ironing one day and a ball of flame shot out of the back of the iron, hit the wall, and just vanished. It looked like something off of Star Wars. Singed the wallpaper a bit. The iron went into the trash.

All your feedback has convinced me to get a new blow dryer. Especially "sparks near wet hair" ...

My mom had a really old hairdryer that was my grandmothers and when she used it the coils inside would get red hot, like the inside of a toaster oven. I will never forget the day my dad threw it away, and my mom freaked out!!!
