Really cute! Would the crate be sturdy enough for sitting if turned on it's side so that books or whatever could be stored & accessible to students?
I have a small area under a "fort" that I plan to use for my book area. A seating & storage area combo would be great!
I was interested also in the cost. I'm wondering if it would be less costly to build a simple bench & put a cushion on top by the time you purchase crates & supplies?

I just saw this on a teacher blog but they added a ribbon across the middle to make it easier to carry.

I love those! I teach middle school and the kids still like to sit around the room and out of their desk. I let it happen sometimes (more towards to end of the year) but they have to sit on the floor. I may make some of these and have them in my room for maybethe student of the day, or someone who has in some way earned that extra treat!?!?!?!

Very cool ... thanks for sharing:thumb:

Love these! I'm thinking of crates for storage because my students have tables, I wonder if I could do this to them...

    Seems expensive though...

I saw crates like these at Target today for $3.59 each, in their back to school section. Immediately thought of this thread when I saw them too!

will they hold sixth graders? I love them, but they are small I think for my kids.

I want to make these but I teach fourth and there are some very large kids. There are many who easily weigh over two hundred pounds. What do you think the weight limit is?

Those are so adorable. Are they replacing student desks, or used for something special?

I love these. I'm thinking about making 1, yes one. There are times that I need to sit on the floor, but there are days that I get down & have a hard time getting up! This would put me lower to the floor. Just have to worry about bending over, maybe not such a great idea afterall. I love the idea of storage space!

I have actual milk crates that are very sturdy.

I will have about ten crate seats this year. The only thing... I don't think I have ever had a fourth grade student who could not sit on one. They are pretty durable if you use wood to make it even sturdier and then some extra cushioning.

That's good to know. I don't want a seat to break on a kid.

Yes that would be devistating!! When I was in 2nd grade, there was a chair in the classroom that was already broke and the legs weren't even connected. I sat in it and it fell apart. Not only was I horrified but the teacher says "That's what happens when you eat too many chips" (My dad worked for Frito Lay and drove a truck which is what she was referring to. I lived in a small town so eveyone knew everything about everyone else!!) I was so embarrased and I wasn't even big but I will never forget how it made me feel .... :(
